Q: As an exporter, where do I find potential customers for my product?
A: See pages 14-21
Q: As an importer, where do I find products to import?
A: See pages 23-27
Q: If I quote FOB my city, does this mean the same in international trade as domestic?
What does CIF mean?
A: FOB in international trade means something very different from FOB in a domestic U.S.
sale. CIF means Cost, Insurance, and Freight are included in the price. But that's not the
same as a "delivered" price See pages 36-44 for a full explanation.
Q: Is a letter of credit a guarantee I will get paid?
A: NO! And don't let anybody tell you it is. But you can get paid under a letter of credit if it's
handled properly. See pages 46-53
Q: Under NAFTA, does the fact that a product is made in Canada or
Mexico now make it duty-free coming into the U.S.? Are all U.S. products duty-free going into Canada and
Mexico?
A: No. It's not always so, and it's not automatic. The NAFTA Certificate of Origin is the key
here.
See pages 86-88 including a completely filled-in sample NAFTA Certificate of Origin.
